In collaboration with Hanoi Medical University (HMU), Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMP) and Hanoi University of Public Health (HUPH), the JW LEE Center of Global Medicine funded and implemented a 5-year health system strengthening project in northern and southern Vietnam. The JW LEE Center of Global Medicine College of Medicine has partnered with SNU College of Nursing, School of Dentistry, Graduate School of Public Health to work in as a multidisciplinary team.

Since the development of economics and health care service in Vietnam in the last decades, life expectancy of Vietnamese has increased quite fast during the past few years and in the coming years. Map 1 below shows that life expectancy of Vietnamese people reached 75, while income per person is still quite low. Additionally, there is a rapidly aging population alongside an increasing non-communicable diseases (NCD) prevalence. Over the years, Vietnam has made impressive gains in achieving universal healthcare (UHC) in a limited source setting compared to neighboring countries. UHC is ensuring that everyone – irrespective of their ability to pay – can access to health services they need without suffering undue financial hardship in the process. Therefore, proper service delivery system is crucial condition to achieve UHC.
